These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Proverbs 6:16-19

We are definitely approaching a particular holiday that evil imaginations will run wild.  However, there is no way that the ugly, frightening, and hideous things we see on display during this particular time of year are pleasing to the Lord.  "Oh, but Mrs. Kim, it's all in fun!  We like to be scared!"  That may be true, but take a look at this verse:

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. I Timothy 1:7

It doesn't sound too much like the Lord is for people watching or doing things that are frightening and ugly, does it?  As Christians, we are not to contemplate the "dark side" or the evil that is surely all around us.  We are to think on things that are good and pure.  Things that build us up and encourage us in our faith.  For this reason, girls, you would do well to turn off those movies and shows that make you afraid.  Stop being curious about things like vampires, witches, and ghosts!  Stay away from what has the appearance of evil.  God doesn't want you to be afraid!

Scripture Reading for the Day:

  1. That is a good point, God doesn't want us seeking after those frightening things!

  2. I never thought about these things in conjunction with this verse - you are absolutely right! It scares me to see how readily my generation of Christian friends embrace and enjoy the "harmless evils" of the powers of darkness. Thank you for pointing this out to us!
